RealLifeFashion is hosting their fashion and body art show this Sunday, September 20 at the Highland Conference Center and should be a HOT one as usual. I always look forward to deejaying this event where I can dust off the house crates and get loose for the evening (I’ll be dropping a pre-show mix this week). More info and details here at Reallifefashion.com or Urbanham.com.

Legendary flautist Bobbi Humphrey is making a stop in Birmingham as she headlines this year’s Taste of 4th Ave. Jazz Festival, Saturday, September 26th. The first female signed to Blue Note under the wings of super producers The Mizell Brothers (amongst others), the “First Lady Of Flute” has been a favorite of the jazz and hip hop generations for over 35+ years. More show details coming soon.

The Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival is next week as well (September 25-27), so get ready for over 177 films, shorts, documentaries, and animations at 9 different venues in the downtown area. A documentary that has been getting some buzz is Say My Name, which depicts “the struggles, conflicts and triumphs of female MC’s, R&B singers, rappers and hip-hop artists” from the communities of London, New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, Los Angeles and Atlanta. Featuring Erykah Badu, MC Lyte, and Jean Grae amongst many others. View the Say My Name trailer here.

In our on-going effort of discovering and re-discovering the gems we call vinyl, Wax Poetics Sundays returns..I was excited to see the newest issue #36, their first Brazil Issue. On that note you can expect to hear some of that Brazillian flavor this Sunday (too bad you can’t make this one Rah, maybe Brazil pt. 2 in August?).

Don Johnson, JayTeeDee, Jubal John and myself will be holding down the decks (What up Thed?).

Music starts from 1pm-6pm. Charlemagne Records is located at: 1924 1/2 11th Ave S Birmingham, AL 35205 – (205) 322-5349

Much thanks to everyone who came out for the impromptu MJ Tribute last month. There were some great discussions going on in the room with some exceptional tunes to match. One of the highlights for me had to have been Jubal’s closing out the session with Never Can Say Goodbye (Big up!).

Its here once again (funny how time flies)! Wax Poetics Sundays @ Charlemagne with deejays Don Johnson, Jubal John, and 3/6 of the BamaLoveSoul crew: DJ Rahdu, JayTeeDee, and Junior Star, this Sunday May 31 – 1pm-6pm.

A bunch of vinyl has been picked up since the last Wax Po session, so be prepared for many treats..
and last but not least, be sure to pick up the latest issue #35 from the shop and grab yourself a $1 off back issue (or two) while they last. The last time I checked (about a year ago), back issue #1 was going for like a hundred bucks..
